Dominion seeks fuel rate hike for Va. customers
Dominion asks Virginia regulators for first fuel rate increase in 2 years
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Dominion Virginia Power says it's asking state regulators to increase what the utility charges customers to recover its fuel costs for the first time in two years.
The Dominion Resources Inc. unit on Friday asked the State Corporation Commission to increase the fuel rate starting July 1.
If approved, the change would raise the average monthly bill of a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours by $2.36.
Virginia law allows Dominion to bill its customers for the company's cost of the natural gas, coal, uranium and biomass used to generate electricity and the power the utility company buys.
The company says higher fuel costs and increased electricity demand are the primary drivers for its request.
Dominion has about 2.3 million customers in Virginia.
