Dov Charney: American Apparel offered me millions to stay

Earlier today we reported on the firing of Dov Charney at American Apparel and the new CEO that was put in place, Paula Schneider. Mr. Charney spoke with Yahoo Finance's Jeff Macke soon thereafter and provided us with the following statement:

Nothing has been more important to me over the last 25 years than building American Apparel into a leading retailer and clothing manufacturer with a strong brand, unique culture and dedicated employees who are proud to deliver high quality “Made in the USA” products to our customers around the world.

During the last half year, I have been working for the company in a leadership role. In the recent weeks, I was offered a lucrative multi-million dollar compensation package with the company. I refused to accept the board's offer, primarily over board composition issues, particularly the refusal of the board to immediately provide the new CEO (whom I am supportive of hiring) with a board seat.

In your piece, you mistakenly quoted that the 30 executives had signed a petition which led to my ousting, when in fact, it carried the exact opposite sentiment. A copy of the original letter is attached.

With respect to allegations of sexual harassment that have been made against me over the years, they are baseless and no one has ever prevailed in these types of claims.  You point out that the last series of these kind of lawsuits were in 2011.

Additionally, in reference to the case involving a store manager in Malibu, there is absolutely no truth to those allegations. The employee in question only came forward with these allegations many months after the alleged incident took place and after he was terminated.

Yahoo Finance is confirming the authenticity of the letter Charney is referring to and will post it here if appropriate.
