The Dow Rises to Almost 1,400: EMC Corporation, Research In Motion

Drug manufacturer Pfizer helped push the Dow on Tuesday closer to the 1,400 mark. The Company announced strong fourth-quarter profits that more than quadrupled. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 73 points to close at 13,954.42 points yesterday. Other indexes remained strong with the Standard and Poor's 500 adding eight points to close at 1,507.84 points, and the Nasdaq composite dropped less than a point to close at 3,153.66

EMC Corporation (EMC) – EMC may have seen a drop in price yesterday but the stock traded on tremendous volume with 133,491,105 shares traded. This is in comparison to a daily average of 19,879,900. EMC is the parent company of VMware whose sales forecast missed estimates. Shares of EMC Corp. closed down about 4% on Tuesday at $24.18. EMC also provided a 2013 forecast that fell short. The Company said in a filing on Tuesday that sales will be $23.5 billion when analysts have projected $23.6 billion on average.

Research In Motion Limited (RIMM) – Research in Motion shares fell yesterday on unusually high trading volume. Average daily volume is 48,593,900. RIMM traded 106,906,146 on Tuesday but fell 3% to close at $15.66. The Company designs, manufactures, and markets wireless solutions for the mobile communications market worldwide. RIMM is preparing to launch the much anticipated BlackBerry 10 today.

Medical Marijuana, Inc. (OTC:MJNA) – MJNA hit 16 cents yesterday giving the Company a new 52-week high.Volume traded on Tuesday was over $2.5 million. The Company announced earlier this month that its portfolio company, Red Dice Holdings, owner of the Dixie Elixirs & Edibles brand is re-launching their innovative hemp oil wellness brand as Dixie Botanicals. Medical Marijuana Inc. operates in the medical marijuana and industrial hemp markets.

Echo Automotive Inc. (OTCBB:ECAU) – ECAU has set yet another new 52-week high when shares hit $3.61 on Tuesday. The stock has been setting a new 52-week high almost every day for the last trading week. Shares of ECAU closed up 33% yesterday on modestly higher than average volume. The Company announced that celebrated motorsports personality and industry advocate Arie Luyendyk has joined their Advisory Board. Echo Automotive Inc. is a developer of technologies enabling the cost effective conversion of existing fleet vehicles into fuel efficient hybrids.

Terralene Fuels Corporation (OTCBB:GSPT) – GSPT volume traded yesterday was 80x higher than usual reaching 51,180,446. This is compared to a daily average of 628,432. The stock saw an unusual explosion in price and closed at 0.02 on Tuesday with gains of 837.50%. The stock has a 52-week high of $0.08. Terralene Fuels Corporation provides alternative renewable fuels.
