Corporate earnings will dominate market news today, as no economic events on the calendar.
S&P 500 companies such as General Electric, Ingersoll-Rand, Kansas City Southern, Whirlpool, SunTrust Banks, and Schlumberger are set to release quarterly results.
Next week is similar, with few economic data releases but plenty of quarterly reports.
Monday features the Chicago Federal Reserve's national activity index and existing home sales. Hasbro, Kimberly Clark, McDonald's, Texas Instruments, and Netflix will release their numbers that day.
Tuesday brings the FHFA house price index and the Richmond Fed's activity gauge. Earnings include Broadcom, DuPont, Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, Lockheed Martin, AT&T, United Technologies, and Valero Energy.
There are no economic reports on Wednesday, but Akamai, Boeing, Caterpillar, EMC, Ford, General Dynamics, Qualcomm, Visa, and Western Digital will issue results.
Thursday brings durable-goods orders and initial jobless claims, plus earnings from Biogen Idec, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Dow Chemical, General Motors, 3M, Starbucks, and L-3 Communications.
Friday's only economic event is the final estimate of consumer sentiment for July. Tyco and LyondellBasell Industries will announce quarterly numbers.
