BOSTON, May 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Eaton Vance California Municipal Income Trust (NYSE MKT: CEV) (the "Trust"), a closed-end management investment company, today announced the earnings of the Trust for the three months ended February 28, 2013. The Trust's fiscal year ends on November 30, 2013.

For the three months ended February 28, 2013, the Trust had net investment income of $1,370,064 ($0.189 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $24,235 (equal to $0.003 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $1,345,829, or $0.186 per common share. In comparison, for the three months ended February 29, 2012, the Trust had net investment income of $1,473,314 ($0.203 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $22,689 (equal to $0.003 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $1,450,625, or $0.200 per common share.

Net realized and unrealized losses for the three months ended February 28, 2013 were $2,204,080 ($0.304 per common share). In comparison, net realized and unrealized gains for the three months ended February 29, 2012 were $9,045,371 ($1.248 per common share).

On February 28, 2013, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $104,056,736.  The net asset value per common share on February 28, 2013 was $14.33 based on 7,259,600 common shares outstanding. In comparison, on February 29, 2012, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $98,832,863. The net asset value per common share on February 29, 2012 was $13.63 based on 7,250,096 common shares outstanding.
