Edmonton Film Prize Recognizes Capital City Talent Call for Entries

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire -02/21/12)- There's $10,000 on the table for an Edmonton film-maker.

The Edmonton Arts Council (EAC) and the Edmonton Film Commission are now accepting submissions for the inaugural Edmonton Film Prize, an annual cash award, acknowledging the work of an Edmonton film-maker. Deadline for submissions is March 30.

"Awards for excellence are an important part of investment in arts and artists," says John Mahon, Executive Director of EAC. "The Art of Living, Edmonton's 10-year cultural plan for the City, identifies civic awards in the arts as a strategic move."

A panel of film-peers will be formed to jury submissions and choose a winner, Mahon says.

"This is a city that embraces creative industries and appreciates what they contribute to our economy and quality of life," says Edmonton Film Commissioner Brad Stromberg. "Edmonton has many outstanding film-makers. This prize reinforces that recognition and appreciation."

The Edmonton Film Prize will be $10,000. It will be presented this fall.
