Empire Beauty Schools Supports National Domestic Violence Awareness Month Through Annual Fundraising Event
Empire's 'National Day of Beauty' Raises Funds to Support Local Shelters in 21 States
POTTSVILLE, PA--(Marketwired - October 06, 2014) - Every 9 seconds in the U.S. a woman is assaulted or beaten. This staggering statistic is the reason Empire Beauty Schools is once again hosting its annual National Day of Beauty, a system-wide fundraising initiative to support the victims of domestic abuse on a local, and very much needed, level.
On Saturday, October 11th each of Empire's 110 school locations will open its doors to women, men and children of all ages for haircuts, coloring, nail services and more. 100% of the proceeds from these beauty services will benefit local domestic violence shelters in each school's community. Walk-ins are welcome. To date, Empire Gives Back and the National Day of Beauty program has raised more than $500,000 in cash and donations to support local shelters, and aid in the fight against domestic violence.
"Beyond fundraising and local shelter support, we also support the Cut It Out program, a curriculum of special training designed to teach cosmetologists how to recognize the signs of domestic abuse," says Franklin K. Schoeneman, CEO, Empire Education Group. "This is an epidemic that surprisingly often reveals itself in the chair of a stylist. Whether through a shared confidence or visible signs of abuse, hairdressers are often faced with this issue and without training, are unsure how to respond. I am proud to say that our students are equipped with the information they need to comfortably point victims to the National Domestic Violence Hotline."
All Empire schools also support their local shelters throughout the year with additional fundraisers along with free salon services for shelter residents and their children. Empire Education Group also offers educational endowments to any shelter residents interested in attending beauty school.
