(ENOC), the world's leading provider of demand response applications and services, today announced that DemandSMART™, EnerNOC's comprehensive demand response application, has been selected by SustainabilityLive's Environment and Energy Awards as the 2012 Energy Product of the Year. The Environment and Energy Awards celebrate excellence and innovation from businesses and technology providers in the market place. The awards were presented at a reception held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

DemandSMART is a hosted software application that enables customers participating in demand response to view real-time energy data, to monitor demand response performance, and to assess the impact of other energy efficiency measures on their overall energy spend. When the UK electrical grid experiences an imbalance between supply and demand, the grid operator sends a signal to EnerNOC's Network Operations Centre that triggers a demand response despatch. Participants in EnerNOC's demand response programme then respond by reducing non-essential electricity usage, thus restoring balance to the grid. DemandSMART gives participants a real-time view into how they are performing against target energy reductions during demand response despatches and enables them to identify other areas where energy can be managed more efficiently.Through DemandSMART's automated demand response (AutoDR) functionality, EnerNOC can remotely reduce electricity usage at participating sites directly from its Network Operations Centre. This automated demand response technology helps make demand response participation a seamless process in a variety of settings, from commercial property to hospitals to heavy industrial sites.
