LINCKLAEN, N.Y. (AP) -- Federal environmental authorities say a $10 million decontamination project is set to begin this month at a former industrial site in central New York.
The Environmental Protection Agency says Wednesday the work will remove soil containing volatile organic compounds and PCBs from the Solvent Saver Superfund site in the Chenango County town of Lincklaen. The EPA is also designing a project to clean groundwater contaminated by the company's waste recovery operation.
Solvent Saver Inc. took in industrial solvents and other material between 1967 and 1974 from American Locker Group, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., General Electric Co., International Business Machines Corp., Pass and Seymour, and the U.S. Air Force, which are responsible for designing and paying for the cleanup.
The project is expected to take about a year.
Lincklaen is 29 miles south of Syracuse.
