EPA proposes 2013 renewable fuel standards

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing the 2013 percentage standards for four fuel categories that are part of the agency’s Renewable Fuel Standard program. The proposal will be open for a 45-day public comment period and EPA will consider feedback from a range of stakeholders before the proposal is finalized. The proposed 2013 overall volumes and standards include total renewable fuels at 16.55B gallons, including biomass-based diesel at 1.28B gallons, advanced biofuels at 2.75B gallons and cellulosic biofuels at 14M gallons. The Fly notes companies whose business involves ethanol for use in transportation include Archer Daniels (ADM), Andersons (ANDE), Biofuel Energy (BIOF), Green Plains (GPRE), Pacific Ethanol (PEIX) and REX American Resources (REX). Other companies involved in biofuel and renewable fuels include Solazyme (SZYM), Gevo (GEVO), Amyris (AMRS) and KiOR (KIOR).
