ETF Fund Flows: IWM Picks Up $258.3 Million

Investors put $258.3 million into the iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (NYSEArca:IWM - News), making it No. 1 on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10 Creations” list. Stocks rallied on expectations of further stimulus from central banks and signs that the Chinese economy is headed for a soft landing.

Net outflows were $225.7 million but total assets under management rose to almost $1.192 trillion from a little under $1.180 trillion on Wednesday, April 11.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 181.1 points, or 1.4 percent, to close at 12,986.5. Investors were reassured by comments from the Federal Reserve indicating that the bank would be continuing its accommodative monetary policies as well as a new report indicating that loan volume was up in China. The S'P 500 was up 18.86 points, or 1.4 percent, to close at 1,387.57.

The No. 2 fund on the creations list was the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEArca:XLE - News), which had $174.5 million in inflows. The No. 3 fund on the list was the Vanguard Mid-Cap ETF (NYSEArca:VO - News), which had $144.4 million in inflows.

U.S.-focused fixed-income ETFs had inflows of $259.0 million

Redemptions

Investors pulled $514.1 million from the PowerShares QQQ Trust (NasdaqGM:QQQ - News), making it No.1 on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10 Redemptions” list.

The No. 2 fund on the list was the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEArca:XLP - News), which suffered $271.0 million in outflows. The No. 3 fund on the list was the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index Fund (NYSEArca:EEM - News), which had $210.0 million in outflows.

U.S.-focused equity ETFs had outflows of $291.7 million.
