Investors plowed $1.97 billion into the SPDR S'P 500 ETF (SPY - News), making it the No. 1 fund on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10 Creations” list. Stocks rose as more positive corporate earnings statements were released and in response to improved housing data.
Net flows were $3.04 billion and total assets under management rose to $1.201 trillion from $1.192 trillion on Wednesday, April 25.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 113.90 points, or 0.90 points, to close at 13.204.62. Boosting the market were rallies in the telecommunications and homebuilder sectors, as well as a report from the National Association of Homebuilders that its index of pending home sales had risen 4.1 percent in March, a two-year high. The S'P 500 rose 9.29 points, or 0.70 percent, to close at 1,399.98.
The No. 2 fund on the creations list was the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average Trust (DIA - News), which had inflows of $177.9 million. The No. 3 fund on the list was the Health Care Select SPDR Fund (XLV - News), which had inflows of $172.4 million.
U.S.-focused equity ETFs had inflows of $2.58 billion. U.S-focused fixed-income ETFs had inflows of $406.0 million.
Redemptions
Investors pulled $284.0 million from the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ - News), making it No. 1 on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10 Redemptions” list.
The No. 2 fund on the redemptions list was the Direxion Daily Small Cap Bull 3x Shares (TNA - News), which had outflows of $112.6 million. The No. 3 fund on the list was the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate Index Fund (IYR - News), which had outflows of $89.1 million.
