Investors put $182.5 million into the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE - News) yesterday, as net inflows and rising equities markets -- fueled by relatively strong economic data -- lifted total assets invested in U.S.-listed ETFs.
Oil inventories fell in the past week and home sales rose in May, both of which likely contributed to the inflows into XLE and helped lift the major stock market indexes yesterday. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 92.34 points, or 0.7 percent, to 12,627.01.
Net in inflows totaled just $11.3 million but, with stock prices rising, total U.S.-listed ETF assets climbed to more than $1.154 trillion from $1.147 trillion on Tuesday, June 26, according to data compiled by IndexUniverse.
Investors also plowed $151.9 million into the iShares iBoxx $ Investment Grade Corporate Bond Fund (LQD - News) and $143.8 million into the iShares Barclays TIPS Bond Fund (TIP - News).
Investors meanwhile yanked $1.66 billion out of the SPDR S'P 500 ETF (SPY - News), which fueled the $438.0 million in total outflows from U.S. equities.
