Federal Aviation Administration closing 1 air traffic control tower in Montana
KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) -- The Federal Aviation Administration's final list of 149 air traffic control facilities that will be closed at small airports around the country starting next month contains Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell, Mont.
Airport Director Cindi Martin say the airport operated without a control tower for 60 years up to 2001 and will be able to go back to operating without one.
No other Montana airports are on the final list released Friday. Closures are to start April 7.
The FAA is under orders to trim hundreds of millions of dollars from its budget.
The closures will not force any of the airports to shut down, but pilots will have to coordinate takeoffs and landings over a shared radio frequency with no help from ground controllers.
