Fairfield, Maine School District Supports 1-1 iPad Program With Meru(R) Education-Grade (MEG) Wireless Solution

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 6, 2014) - Meru Networks® (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in Wi-Fi networking, today announced that Maine School Administration District 49 has deployed a Meru Education-grade (MEG™) wireless solution to support more than 2,000 Apple® iPads® and MacBooks®, Google® Chromebooks® and other mobile devices issued to teachers and students. The wireless network has helped the district support a number of new student learning programs and increase teacher effectiveness through mobility, enabling a "virtually paperless" learning environment.
"Our high schools' core curricula are supported through the 1-1 initiative with help from the Meru network, which allows our teachers to be virtually paperless," said Stephanie Vargas, assistant technology coordinator for the district, which is headquartered in Fairfield, Maine. "The Wi-Fi network supports Pearson and Envision programs in the elementary schools, a Digits-based program in the middle schools and all of our teachers use Google apps, projecting their work for the students using AppleTV. Wi-Fi has truly transformed how students and teachers collaborate across the district."
The school district serves the communities of Albion, Benton, Clinton and Fairfield and includes about 2,300 students and 180 teachers in eight widely dispersed buildings -- one school is 11 miles from the district's central location. The district selected Meru for its high-density device support and for the ease of deployment and management enabled by the single-channel, Virtual Cell deployment option of the MobileFLEX architecture. This makes it possible for the district's two full-time and two school-year IT department staff to maintain the network, which consists of four Meru controllers and hundreds of access points spread across the district.
