Toyota US sales rise more than 12 percent on higher demand for fuel-efficient vehicles

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) -- Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. said Thursday its U.S. sales rose more than 12 percent February on higher demand for fuel efficient vehicles.

BY THE NUMBERS: The automaker said it sold a total of 159,423 vehicles, up from 141,846 in the same month last year.

TOP SELLER: Sales of the Camry sedan rose 27 percent to 34,542 in February from 27,212 in the same period a year ago.

HOT MODELS: Sales of the Yaris subcompact car jumped 86 percent to 3,611 from 1,946.
