Fewer Target holiday workers

Investor's Business Daily

The big box retailer said that it only plans to hire 70,000 seasonal workers, 20% fewer than the 88,000 it hired last year. Target (TGT) said it wanted to be sure its permanent employees got the extra hours they wanted during the busy shopping season. The company said year-round employees can add 5%-10% to their working hours vs. a year ago. In '12, one-third of Target's seasonal workers became permanent workers. Holiday hiring is expected to start ramping up in October. Shares fell 1.3% to 64.55.
