FireEye Announces Release of Incident Response & Computer Forensics, Third Edition

Latest Version of Expert Security Guide Addresses Rapidly-Changing Incident Response Landscape

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 6, 2014) - FireEye, Inc. (NASDAQ: FEYE), the leader in stopping today's advanced cyber attacks, today announced the release of Incident Response & Computer Forensics, Third Edition, which will also be available at Black Hat USA 2014 (Mandiant booth #246 and FireEye booth #411). The new edition includes a 90% rewrite to reflect and address the ever-changing security environment and how companies can best protect against, and recover from, increasingly sophisticated attacks.

"We rewrote this volume in response to the dramatic changes we've seen in attacks against the government and corporations throughout the world," said Kevin Mandia, senior vice president and COO of FireEye and founder and former chief executive officer of Mandiant, a FireEye company. "We want to help the industry stay ahead of sophisticated cyber criminals and encourage organizations to implement a comprehensive strategy that begins with detection and ends with remediation."

Incident Response & Computer Forensics was co-authored by Kevin Mandia, Matt Pepe (senior technical director and co-founder of Mandiant), Jason Luttgens (former technical director), and Ryan Kazanciyan (technical director). The book covers the entire lifecycle of incident response, including:

  • Preparation - such as how to form an incident response (IR) team, IR lifecycle management, and how to prepare an infrastructure for resolving future incidents;

  • Data collection and analysis - including the collection and preservation of live and offline systems, how to perform analysis on Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X; and

  • Remediation - which delves into real-world case studies and "how-to" solutions.

Copies of Incident Response & Computer Forensics, Third Edition will be available at Mandiant's Black Hat booth #246 and FireEye's Black Hat booth #411. The book is available on Amazon. Additionally, Matt Pepe will be signing copies of Incident Response at Black Hat USA 2014 on Wednesday, August 6 from 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. PT at the Mandiant booth. Free copies will be available to the first 30 guests at the signing.

About FireEye, Inc.

FireEye has invented a purpose-built, virtual machine-based security platform that provides real-time threat protection to enterprises and governments worldwide against the next generation of cyber attacks. These highly sophisticated cyber attacks easily circumvent traditional signature-based defenses, such as next-generation firewalls, IPS, anti-virus, and gateways. The FireEye Threat Prevention Platform provides real-time, dynamic threat protection without the use of signatures to protect an organization across the primary threat vectors and across the different stages of an attack life cycle. The core of the FireEye platform is a virtual execution engine, complemented by dynamic threat intelligence, to identify and block cyber attacks in real time. FireEye has over 2,200 customers across more than 60 countries, including over 130 of the Fortune 500.
