Nothing screams summer louder to bargain shoppers than garage or yard sales. During the weekends, we try to go out and hit a few sales at least one of the two days. I have found some serious bargains at places like this, but I have also made some regrettable purchases. These are three things I will never purchase at garage sales, and why.
Nothing is worse than getting something home only to find out it doesn't work. The majority of sales I have attended have not offered outlets to check the appliances beforehand, and I have purchased at least two duds since beginning to attend these sales. I would much rather buy items like this at a thrift store where they can be plugged in, or at a store that offers a warranty on their items. It is better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to electrical items.
This is one of my biggest pet peeves about garage sales. When I see people trying to sell half-used lotions or make-up samples they have received, it is a complete turn-off. Stuff like this should just be thrown away if you are no longer using it. If you are a sales rep for a company, a yard sale is not the place to be selling your merchandise. Invest in a make-over party or something, at least then your products will be featured. I will never buy make-up from a place like this, or any other beauty-type products. These items should be bought at a specialty store or make-up counter.
Swimsuits or undergarments
I am not above buying gently-used clothing, but these are items that should never be shared. The entire purpose of these items are to protect your private parts and keep them clean. Women should not share these item, let alone purchase them used. I won't even buy used swimsuits for my kids. These are items I will only purchase at clothing stores, and that is the way it should be.
I am far from a snob when it comes to buying used items. I love getting a bargain while also purchasing items that I need. Garage sales are a gold mine for items like clothing, baby toys, and books. However, there are just some items that I cannot bring myself to buy at places like garage or yard sales, especially the ones mentioned.
