I don't spend a lot of time getting ready in morning. However, I do care about my appearance. My beauty routine is simple. I don't wear a lot of makeup. Occasionally, I receive professional hair and nail services. However, most of the time my beauty regimen consists of do-it yourself procedures. Overall, I spend about $750 a year on my appearance.
When I was 16, I started dyeing my hair. Since then, I have been experimenting with various shades of brown, blonde and red. I always say I'm going to go back to my original color but it never happens for long. To keep my costs down, I color my roots myself every six weeks. On the average, a box of hair dye costs $7. This runs me about $60 a year. Every three to four months I go to my hairstylist for a haircut and subtle highlights. This costs me $130. Shampoo, conditioner and detangler set me back another $100. I use quality products to keep my hair healthy and well maintained between salon visits. Overall, I spend about $ 550 a year on my hair.
Manicure and Pedicures
I used to get monthly manicures and pedicures. However, once I had children, I no longer could afford this luxury. I try to treat myself twice a year. This costs me back $80. I also started making my own foot scrub. Using sugar, olive oil and essential oils, I created a scrub for $1 a jar. Thus, I only spend about $8 a year on foot scrub that is similar to the one used in nail spas. I usually purchase two new bottles of nail polish every year. I like high quality lacquers like OPI and Essie. These average $7 a bottle. Overall, I spend about $100 a year on my nails.
Makeup and Moisturizer
I take advantage of magazine contests and free offers to receive a lot of my beauty products for free. I have found that Vitamin E oil is an inexpensive moisturizer. For $8, I am able to purchase two bottles to last me the entire year. In the summer, I invest about $40 in a quality moisturizer with SPF. Usually, I spend about $50 a year on makeup (mostly mascara and BB creams). I try to only purchase makeup when there is a free gift. Thus, along with my mascara and BB cream purchase, I am able to get lip gloss, eye shadow and perhaps some face wash. This all costs me $100.
