AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Forestar Group named former Exxon Mobil executive Charles Matthews as a board member.

The real estate and natural resources developer said Tuesday that the 67-year-old Matthews will fill a position that has been vacant since the death of Louis Brill.

The board at Forestar Group Inc. now has 11 members, and 10 of them are independent directors.

Matthews served as vice president and general counsel at Exxon Mobil from 1995 until his retirement in 2010.

Shares of the Austin, Texas company fell 5 cents to $12.02 in afternoon trading.
