NEW YORK (AP) -- Watch and accessories company Fossil has named John White as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

White's appointment is effective Sept. 4. He succeeds Michael Barnes in the COO role. Barnes left Fossil in September 2010 to become CEO of Signet Jewelers Ltd.

He most recently served as president of Pandora North America, a division of Danish jewelry company Pandora A/S.

Fossil Inc. said Wednesday that White will be responsible for its supply chain, distribution and warehousing, legal and information technology operations, with a focus on long-term strategy.

White will report to Fossil CEO Kosta N. Kartsotis.

Earlier this month, Fossil announced that its second-quarter net income climbed 12 percent, driven by growing demand in Asia and strong watch sales.

Shares of the Richardson, Texas company gained $1.48 to $86.04 in morning trading.
