Dutch regulator clears Fox takeover of company that broadcasts country's topflight soccer

AMSTERDAM (AP) -- A Dutch regulator has cleared Fox's takeover of the company that controls the broadcasting rights for the Eredivisie, the top division for the country's soccer teams.

The Netherlands Competition Authority says Friday that it has approved Fox International Channels' bid to take a 51 percent stake in Eredivisie Media and Marketing, which holds the broadcasting rights for the Eredivisie.

Competition authority board member Henk Don says the deal guarantees a payment of €80 million ($104 million) a year to clubs in the Eredivisie through 2025.
