PITTSBURGH, PA--(Marketwired - Apr 15, 2013) - Studies have shown that children who live in houses have better grades, are more active in extracurricular activities, have higher self-esteem, decreased teenage pregnancy and fewer behavioral problems. On May 4, 2013, Dollar Bank's free annual Mortgages For Mothers Home Buying Workshop will take place at the Sheraton Station Square. Here, hundreds of women will take the first step toward owning their own home.

"Buying a home can be a frightening and overwhelming experience for anyone. Our Mortgages For Mothers Workshop is the perfect place to start," explained Carol Neyland, Vice President of Community Development at Dollar Bank. "A highlight of the workshop includes inspirational presentations by new homeowners who overcame their own problems with the help of Dollar Bank's credit counselors."

Now in its fourteenth year, the Mortgages For Mothers Workshop attracts more than 300 female heads of households each year who are looking to buy a home. Attendees learn about the various mortgage loan programs available to them and come to understand the importance and power of credit. They will even get a chance to discuss their individual credit reports with a credit professional. KDKA TV's Lynne Hayes-Freeland, a single mom herself, will moderate the session. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-345-3655 or online at MortgagesForMothers.com.

"We assist attendees with repairing their credit issues, proactively saving money in manageable ways and maintaining a detailed budget. We can also explain the vocabulary of home buying in everyday language," continues Neyland. "Plus, now is the perfect time to take advantage of historically low mortgage rates."

Mortgages For Mothers is only one part of Dollar Bank's effort to provide help to would-be borrowers who have special needs. Judith Mason, Community Development Officer, works closely with participants of Dollar Bank's Credit Enhancement Program. "The training and credit counseling we provide create a safety net resulting in low mortgage default rates and homeowners who are prepared for homeownership," describes Mason.

Workshop attendees will be encouraged to continue working with Dollar Bank Credit Enhancement Counselors. Assistance includes educational classes, private credit restoration counseling sessions, special savings programs and other informational and motivational group sessions.

The Mortgages For Mothers Home Buying Workshop will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Sheraton Station Square on Pittsburgh's Southside. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-345-3655 or online at MortgagesForMothers.com. The workshop is open to single and married women, men and couples with or without children.
