If you’ve every watched video online, you’ve sat through ads.
One new service, HitBliss, wants you to watch ads to earn credits to watch TV shows and movies online.
HitBliss begins by asking for demographic information to tailor a range of ads for you. From there, you pick ads to watch and start racking up credit. According to Mashable, “Two minutes of video ads is typically enough to pay for an episode of a TV show and watching 10 minutes of ads is enough to pay for renting a movie.”
The service launched in private beta last month, so you’ll have to sign up for an invite – or you might want to wait until it opens to the public and expands its library. It’s growing collection currently has about 700 recent and classic movies and 140 TV shows. In the future, movies will be available at their DVD release date and TV episodes the day after airing.
Don’t think you can cheat, though. It has ways to make sure you watch the ads. Muting the ad or switching over to another application will pause it, and like the music service Pandora, you’ll occasionally be prompted to insure you’re still listening.
The service is currently for Windows and Mac computers, but mobile support is planned – so maybe you’ll be able to queue up some ads while you’re on the commute home and then reap the rewards when you arrive.
