Friday, the 13th-The Premiere Date for Amazon's Bosch! - Analyst Blog

Fresh from its Golden Globe success on Sunday, Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) has finalized the release date for the preliminary season of “Bosch,” its first hour-long original drama series.

Followers of the best-selling book series by author Michael Connelly can mark Friday, Feb 13. Connelly has authored 19 novels subsequent to Harry Bosch, including the 2014 bestseller “The Burning Room”.

“Bosch” will be offered in the U.S., Germany and the UK exclusively for Amazon Prime members through Prime Instant Video, Amazon Fire products, Apple Inc. (AAPL) products, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Wii and smart TVs.

Though this will be its foremost hour-long drama, the Amazon Studio has 12 other original series set for debut this year. The company had recently disclosed that it has signed Woody Allen to write and direct a half-hour original series.

Storyline

“Bosch” is based on Los Angeles homicide detective Harry Bosch. The first season’s story line is a cat-and-mouse game between Bosch and a murderer who flees custody after owning up to the murder of a 13-year-old boy. Bosch himself stands trial, charged with murdering a serial killer.

Amazon said the series will take viewers “through back streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles rarely seen on-screen.” Titus Welliver has been roped in to play the lead character of Harry Bosch.

Will “Bosch” be as Successful as “Transparent”?

The success of shows like “Transparent” and Netflix’s (NFLX) “House of Cards has made way for superior quality shows being offered exclusively via online streaming services.

Amazon is still celebrating its recent stint at the Golden Globe, where the company’s original series “Transparent” walked away with the award in the category of best musical or comedy TV series and best actor for Jeffery Tambor.

Amazon Studios vice president, Roy Price, said Bosch received strong feedback for its pilot episode.

Connelly said “I am very pleased with season one” in the release and also expressed his satisfaction with the cast.

We are definitely curious to see whether Bosch wins accolades at the next Golden Globe or its release date, Friday the 13th has a role to play in its fate!!

Amazon currently holds a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Investors can also consider Geeknet Inc. (GKNT), as it carries a Zacks Rank#1 (Strong Buy).
