ATLANTA (AP) -- A senior aide to Sen. Johnny Isakson will start a new job in November as Georgia's top job recruiter.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development's board voted Thursday to approve Chris Carr as the agency's new commissioner. Carr has served as Isakson's chief of staff in Washington since 2007 and was nominated for his new job by Gov. Nathan Deal.

Carr is scheduled to start Nov. 1. He will replace outgoing Commissioner Chris Cummiskey, who is leaving state government to take a job with Southern Co.

In a statement, Cummiskey praised Carr as "an outstanding person" to take his place leading the state agency.

The Department of Economic Development works to recruit new business to Georgia, encourage existing industries to expand and promotes tourism in the state.
