Gasoline Price Spike Has Temporary Offset

How much rising gasoline prices will pinch consumers has yet to be seen, but energy savings from the warm winter may have already helped consumers avoid some of the pain.

My house is well insulated so it doesn't cost a ton to heat it even on colder weather, but I do need to drive for work so it does make a huge difference in what I spend and what is left over for other things I might buy.

You will have less left over, and those products will be more expensive because shipping costs will be more expensive.

In our neighborhood and surrounding areas gas is at about $3.65 a gallon right now. Approximately 2 weeks ago we were at about $3.29 a gallon.

Just wait. In 5 months....that $3.65 will seem like a bargin!

and guess what people we don't use Natural gas down here to heat our homes. It is either electric or propane!

Hold off buying. Pretend your gas is rationed and you will not only save, but if enough people do this the price will come down, and you will also punish the speculators.

There are many options to reduce your consumption. Try WALKING, carpooling, combining trips.

And all of our food is shipped. That means huge increases in prices at the grocery store. I hope I'm getting a huge raise soon, or I don't know what I'm going to do.

MZ- There would be no one left. That may be a great thing! It matters not who wins. We will all continue to be bent over in the real world.

Couldn't agree more. The country would run a lot better with no one left. They're all morons anyway, especially the one at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Not Obama! He's the only one up there we can trust with any brains! The rest of them, especially the Teabaggers can hit the bricks.

Nice spin, "Well its no big deal, you didn't spend a lot this winter for heat, so you're actually saving!". BULL! Wouldn't the decreased consumption in the Northeast lead to surpluses? It's truly amazing how deeply embedded the oil companies are in the back pockets of every politician in Washington.

Inflation is creeping up not only in gas prices, but other areas well...check your grocery bill, clothing, healthcare and transportation costs.....only thing not increasing is our payroll checks!

What LIES from the media!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is killing workers and the economy and there is NO DARN reason for it other than GREED. This media does not represent Americans anymore, they are owned by big business and banks. We are slaves now.

Another economic recovery beaten down by oil prices just as it was trying to get on it's feet.
  • D  •  3 months ago
Wow !! De you expect us to believe that with the new extension of the tax break and the cost of heating oil ,gasoline, and food price increases everything is breaking even.l guess you guys better get out of washington with your fat wallets and lifetime benefits and see what is happening in the real world . You don't represent the people only yourselves and your fat paychecks.

LOL - nothing "offsets" higher gas prices. My utility bill will get paid no matter what it is and it has absolutely nothing to do with what I pay to fill up my car. Higher gas prices will lead to higher prices in everything that moves.
  • JujuP  •  3 months ago
Yep, MSNBC. When a republican is president high gas prices are the worst thing ever, but when a dem is president high gas prices are the best thing ever. The media is becoming TASS.

So because it was a mild winter and the gas companies didnt sell much home heating fuel, they decide to raise prices on car gasoline to make up for it!! Cant the prez stop this price gouging of consumers by big oil companies ??? We are not stupid. There is no reason for gas to be this high.
  • something that might work ...  •  3 months ago
LOL Utility costs have skyrocketed too, so my utility bills are no lower in spite of supposedly "warmer" winter.

There is only one way to save the economy: LET SUPPLY AND DEMAND DICTATE THE MARKET BY ENDING SPECULATION (FEAR ADDED TAX).

Inflation=0.2%. Unemployment=8.3!= a drop of 0.9 in one month. These r government figures and nobody asks any questions! Two things to worry about: why are government agencies risking their reputation by going out on a limb with such distortions? and why the media does not chalenge these figures? Dou you realize how dangerous this is?
  • Zack Morris  •  3 months ago
This is bogus. No new construction uses oil, most old homes have switched to natural gas. It has been one of the most mild winters on record, we have a massive surplus of WTI oil, and prices are still over $100/barrel. What a joke.
  • Noway  •  Bemidji, Minnesota  •  3 months ago
Typical Anal-yst view. If you heat with oil in the Northeast, you already filled your tank with high priced oil - whether it burns or not is irrelevent - you already bought the oil in your tank at prices that are well UP from last year. Can you give it back to the oil company because you didn't need to burn it? Hardly.... Heat with natty gas? Guess what? Your utility already has locked in natty gas deliveries at a price well above spot commodity prices. Are they going to charge you less? No way - they have to cover those guaranteed delivery contracts at a higher price. Look at the real world - there is no savings...
