General Electric names PNC chairman as director

General Electric names former PNC Chairman James Rohr to its board of directors

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) -- General Electric Co. said Friday that it has named James E. Rohr, chairman and former CEO of PNC Financial Services Group, to its board of directors.

Rohr was elected at the board's annual meeting Friday. He served as CEO of PNC from 2000 until this year, and has agreed to stay on as chairman of the bank until next April.

Rohr's "experience in finance and risk" will benefit the company, said Jeff Immelt, GE's chairman and CEO, in a statement.

Aside from its finance business, GE sells a wide variety of industrial equipment and appliances around the world. This includes jet engines, medical diagnostic equipment, oil and gas drilling equipment and washing machines. Immelt has said that the company wants a smaller GE Capital. Reports have indicated that the Fairfield, Conn., company may spin off its U.S. consumer lending business.
