GE's LED to Light Up Stater Bros.
Over the years, GE Lighting Solutions, a subsidiary of General Electric Company (GE), has come up with innovative LED (light emitting diode) systems to improve store ambiance, increase visibility, enhance shopper experience and augment profitability by offering significant cost-saving technologies. Stater Bros., the largest privately-owned supermarket chain in Southern California, is the latest beneficiary in this endeavor.
In order to reduce its operating costs and boost its bottom line, Stater Bros. explored various store improvement alternatives before zeroing in on the idea of deploying General Electric’s energy-efficient LED retail lighting system. Stater Bros. will be installing Immersion RV40 LED refrigerated display lighting system of General Electric across 166 stores, which will result in annual savings of $570,000.
Stater Bros will replace 60W fluorescent lights with General Electric’s 17W LED lighting systems, which are estimated to save 4.6 million kWh by consuming 28,444 lesser kWh per store per year. This would equate to about $510,000 in annual savings for an operating period of 17 hours per day at $0.11 kWh rate. The extended life of Immersion RV40 LED lighting system is also likely to contribute significantly to cost savings, as they would require fewer replacements during their operating life. Additionally, the LED lighting system of General Electric will improve the visibility of the stores and augment its visual appeal with crisp, bright white light generated at 5000-degree Kelvin temperature.
