MANHATTAN BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 28, 2014) - Yesterday, Giveback Homes, a business that turns the real estate community into donors helping to reduce poverty around the globe, joined forces with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA). Their first "united build day" in Greater Los Angeles took place on February 27, enlisting Giveback Homes' donors as volunteer builders for the day, pounding nails on a project their contributions helped to fund.
"More than 20 generous Giveback Homes' members gathered at the construction site to donate their day. By building with their own hands the home that their contributions have made possible, they are transforming a family's life. That's a memory-making achievement and an exciting start for Giveback Homes, which only launched last fall," said Giveback Homes founder Blake Andrews.
Giveback Homes' first Habitat for Humanity build in the U.S. took place yesterday in the City of Lynwood, California, where HFH GLA is currently constructing seven new homes. On site, Giveback Homes' members teamed up to participate in a full day of building activities to create a brand new, affordable and sustainable home for a local hardworking, low-income family.
In 2011, when Andrews was working at TOMS, he went on a Habitat for Humanity Global Village trip to Nicaragua. This visit was his inspiration for becoming a social entrepreneur, to help lead the charge in making the world a better place, one transaction at a time. In the case of Giveback Homes, the entrepreneurs are the real estate community: realtors, mortgage brokers, commercial agents, homebuilders and interior designers. And Andrews is using his vision to turn every homebuyer and seller into a humanitarian.
"We are thrilled to be the beneficiary of Giveback Homes' first build day with Habitat in the U.S.," said Erin Rank, president and CEO, HFH GLA. "Our Global Village trips have a way of moving people to action and it's awesome to see Blake using his experience to inspire colleagues to make a difference!"
