General Motors, Amazon, Hailo, Betfair, Zeebox, FilmOn and Civolution have pledged their support for the Hackfest Hackathon series of events to be held in London’s Earls Court 2, October 22-23, as part of Apps World Europe. The companies are supporting three hackathons that will be held at the event, including an Auto Hackathon, TV Hackathon and an Apps Hackathon, which are designed to empower hackers to deliver new and exciting ideas to industry.
Ian Johnson, founder of Apps World said: “Hackathons are of increasing importance to all sectors of business. More and more businesses are realising the benefits of hackathons for bringing together third party developers and hackers. Although at their foundations the event are about fun and learning they can help to foster the innovative thinking that businesses need to keep ahead.”
General Motors’ Nick Pudar, director of developer ecosystems, global connected consumer, and a judge for the Auto Hackathon, said: “We’re excited to be involved with Apps World Hackfest this year as part of our efforts to reach developers who can help us explore what’s possible with in-vehicle apps.”
Zeebox founder and CTO Anthony Rose, who is supporting the TV hackfest said he was honoured to be part of the event. “We’re going to be there with prizes for the best use of our APIs, and our team will be there to help developers realise their amazing ideas,” he said.
Meanwhile Amazon, Betfair and taxi app specialist Hailo will be part of the App Hackfest, the most recent addition to the Hackfest portfolio.
Mike Hines, android evangelist for Amazon Appstore said Amazon was pleased to be supporting Hackfest. “Amazon loves to help entrepreneurs and customers, and hackathons like Hackfest are one opportunity for us to help developers manifest their vision for new apps and games,” he said.
