GM (GM) had been the largest foreign car maker in China in terms of vehicles sold for the past eight consecutive years. But in the first nine months of this year it trails rival Volkswagen (VLKAY), reports the Wall Street Journal. GM China President Bob Socia told the Journal the number one spot may vary depending on the year. But he acknowledges the company has been slow to jump on big market shifts in China, such as surging sales of SUV and luxury cars.
