Goodell: New Orleans deserves another Super Bowl

Goodell says New Orleans deserves to host more Super Bowls despite in-game blackout

PHOENIX (AP) -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says New Orleans "deserves" to host another Super Bowl despite the in-game blackout that stopped play for 32 minutes.

Goodell says he mentioned to the owners how good a job the city did staging its first Super Bowl since 2001, and, of course, its first since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city in 2005.

The league believes New Orleans authorities were able to discover the source of the problem in the third quarter that partially darkened the Superdome. He stresses that he believes it will have "no effect on it at all" should New Orleans bid for another Super Bowl.

The next title game it could bid for is 2018. Next year's game is in New Jersey, followed by Arizona. The 2016 Super Bowl, the 50th, will be in San Francisco or Miami, with the loser of that competition bidding against Houston for the 2017 game.
