Google confirms plan to extend Fiber project to Austin, Texas

Google announced yesterday in a blog post that Austin, Texas will become the second city in its Google Fiber pilot, following Kansas City. Google said its goal is to start connecting homes in Austin by mid-2014. Google will offer a similar choice of products as in KC, including Gigabit Internet or Gigabit Internet plus its Google Fiber TV service. Pricing is expected to be roughly similar to Kansas City and the company will offer customers a free Internet connection at 5 mbps for 7 years, provided they pay a one-time construction fee, Google said.
