Google edges toward EU deal

The search king has offered to change some business practices to appease European authorities and avoid billions in fines. Google (GOOG) has been under investigation by the European Union's watchdog European Commission for 2 years following complaints from more than 12 companies, including Microsoft (MSFT), that it used its power to stifle competition. EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia declined to give details of Google's proposal but said the agency is analyzing it. Google shares rose 2.6% to 775.60.
