European finance ministers started meeting on Sunday and could announce market-moving news at any time. The overall momentum of the talks has been toward resolution, especially after China expressed willingness to help finance a solution.
The single economic report comes at 8:30 a.m. ET, when the Chicago Federal Reserve releases its monthly index for business activity in its region. The data point has little direct impact on trading but will provide further clues about the strength of the U.S. economy.
Probably more important will be earnings news from retail giant Wal-Mart. The company is the country's largest employer, with domestic sales accounting for almost 2 percent of GDP. Results come out before the bell.
