Guardian Launches For-Credit, Personal Finance Course for Community College Students

Money Management for LifeSM provides students with the financial skills they need to make smart money decisions

The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian), one of the nation’s largest mutual life insurers and a leading provider of employee benefits, today announced its commitment to financial literacy through its Money Management for LifeSM program. Through partnerships with community colleges nationally, the program offers a for-credit course to help educate and arm students with the critical skills and knowledge they need to manage their personal finances throughout the various stages of their lives.

The Money Management for LifeSM program has already been successfully piloted at three community colleges in the Connecticut area and is Guardian's official Clinton Global Initiative Commitment to Action. As part of this commitment, Guardian will be working to expand the program to community colleges in areas where the company has a presence in 2014 and years to come.

Through in-depth lesson plans and presentations from guest speakers, the Money Management for LifeSM course offers students the chance to learn about key personal finance issues that could impact their overall financial health. The course explores topics ranging from saving for retirement and college to insurance planning across life stages, among other important financial issues. After completing the course, all of the students surveyed said what they learned in the course will be very helpful in managing their personal finances and that they plan to make some changes to how they manage their personal finances as a result. Additionally, the overwhelming majority of students surveyed said they were very likely to recommend the course and that the Guardian Executive expert guest speakers were very helpful in understanding the course content.
