Harvard Professor Dr. Hunter Gehlbach Joins Panorama Education as Director of Research

Focus Will Be Expanding Panorama's Work to Improve Teaching and Learning Across the World

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Oct 14, 2014) - Panorama Education (www.panoramaed.com), which helps K-12 schools improve through data analysis and feedback surveys of teachers, parents and students, announced today that Dr. Hunter Gehlbach, Associate Professor at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, has joined the company as Director of Research. He will retain his Associate Professorship at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he leads ongoing research projects and teaches a course on survey design.

A long time friend and advisor to Panorama Education, Dr. Gehlbach is an educational psychologist and expert in survey and questionnaire design. His research focuses on bringing social psychological principles to bear on educational challenges.

In his Director of Research role, Dr. Gehlbach will be responsible for:

  • Leading Panorama's survey design work and fostering best practices in survey methodology and measurement.

  • Engaging with districts that work with Panorama to help them improve their survey programs.

  • Evaluating the efficacy of Panorama's products to improve teaching and learning outcomes, and contributing to product development.

  • Serving as a thought leader around the measurement of social, emotional and motivational aspects of K-12 education.

  • Designing strategies that teachers can use to enhance the social climate of their classrooms and better relate to their students.

His research at Panorama will focus on improving educational settings through enhancing the social interactions of teachers and students.

Dr. Gehlbach earned a B.A. in psychology and education from Swarthmore College, after which he taught social studies in a public high school. He later completed an M.Ed. in school counseling from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Stanford.

"It's rare to find a person with deep expertise in education, psychology and survey design," said Aaron Feuer, co-founder of Panorama. "We connected with Hunter early on in the development of Panorama, and after working with him as an advisor for more than a year, asked if he would join our team. His work and counsel have been invaluable as we've grown Panorama from a dorm-room startup to a national organization serving hundreds of school district clients."

"I'm passionate about helping schools improve their respective learning environments and Panorama provides solutions that enable districts to do just that," said Dr. Gehlbach. "In the age of Big Data, it's easy to get overwhelmed with numbers. Panorama helps schools collect and analyze the data that really matters, so they can make smart decisions and measure the outcomes of those decisions. That really appealed to me. I'm very excited to work with Aaron and the rest of the Panorama team."
