Hatch and Palo Verde College Give Teachers a Technology Jump Start with Online Professional Development

Early childhood teachers can register to earn college credit hours for completing online courses in the Hatch Learning Management System (LMS)

As schools begin to narrow the technology gap for students, many are now challenged to demonstrate the impact of their investment. Installation and integration are not equivalent, and teachers need adequate training to enhance their comfort level with technology before they can successfully align it with student learning goals and integrate it into the curriculum. To facilitate best practices in early childhood classrooms with educational technology, Palo Verde College has teamed up with Hatch®, the leading early childhood education technology provider, to offer an online education course for college credit and continuing education hours to teachers using technology in the classroom.

Announced at the National Association for the Education of Young Children Professional Development Institute (NAEYC-PDI) Conference in Minneapolis today, the course, Digital Learning in the Classroom, combines Hatch’s award-winning technology and online professional development courses with Palo Verde College’s renowned academic rigor and distance learning program. The result is an online professional development program designed to amplify and encourage integration of technology into models for engaged learning.

“Giving teachers access to devices and software is only part of incorporating technology successfully into schools. Integrating technology into classrooms depends on the teachers’ readiness to use it. Taught by Professor of Child Development Bruce H. Wallace, EdD, Digital Learning in the Classroom is available nationwide via the Palo Verde College online education program. In-state tuition is available to California residents, and tuition assistance may be available.
