HCA guides 3Q above expectations

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- HCA Holdings Inc. gave a preview of its third-quarter results Thursday that topped market expectations, citing increased admissions to its health care facilities

The hospital and health care facility operator said it expects to earn 79 cents per share for the quarter that ended Sept. 30 on revenue of $8.46 billion. Analysts polled by FactSet were forecasting earnings of 72 cents per share on revenue of $8.39 billion.

HCA, based in Nashville, Tenn., expects to report its complete financial results for the third quarter on Nov. 5.

Shares of the company rose more than 3 percent in after-hours trading to $49.02 following the announcement. They added $1.16 to close regular trading at $47.38.
