Hibbett Sports Inc., a sporting goods retail chain, said Friday that it hired Scott J. Bowman as chief financial officer, effective July 9.
He replaces Gary Smith, who is retiring.
Bowman was most recently a division chief financial officer for Home Depot.
Hibbett Sports suffered during the recession as people cut back on non-essential items such as pricey sporting gear. But its results have bounced back. In its most recent fiscal first quarter ended April 28 the company said its net income rose 24 percent on higher demand for sneakers and other athletic gear. Revenue rose 14 percent to $232.9 million.
Shares were up 46 cents to $57.13 during afternoon trading.
