HAZELTON, W.Va. (AP) -- The West Virginia welcome center at Hazelton is a popular place with holiday travelers using Interstate 68 to reach their Thanksgiving destinations. On Wednesday, a steady flow of people stopped by after getting early starts on their journeys.
Thirty-two-year-old Jessica Waagner was traveling from Lopatcong, N.J., to her hometown of Julian — a nine-hour drive that began at 3 a.m.
She says she never considers flying home. She says gas prices are what they are, and she just pays them.
Sixty-two-year-old Linda Carroll of Front Royal, Va., was headed for Dayton, Ohio, to visit her three sisters and her mother.
She's planning to travel home Sunday but says she expects another hassle-free drive because she's changed her route to avoid the Pennsylvania Turnpike and pass through West Virginia instead.
