HomeServe Chosen by American Electric Power to Offer Emergency Repair Service Plans to Ohio Homeowners

Business Wire

NORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

HomeServe USA (HomeServe), a leading provider of home emergency repair service plans, today announced an agreement with American Electric Power (AEP) that should lead to the opportunity of providing service plans to 3.7 million households located in AEP territories across eleven states. The new program will begin with an offer for the Exterior Electric Line service plan to the more than 1.5 million AEP customers in Ohio. Customers in Ohio will be receiving additional information in the mail over the next few weeks.

HomeServe’s Exterior Electric Line service plans offer homeowners protection against the expense and inconvenience of repairs to the home’s exterior electrical components that connect to the AEP electric system. This can include repairs to the weatherhead, riser pipe, insulators, meter base and service entrance cable. These repairs can be costly and are not typically covered by basic homeowners insurance. HomeServe plan holders will have access to a Repair Hotline that is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to bring local, licensed, and insured electricians right to their home for repairs. The plan costs $4.99 a month.

HomeServe is already an established service provider in Ohio, providing coverage to 114,000 Ohio homeowners holding 175,000 service plans. AEP homeowners will also have access to other HomeServe service plans, including for interior electrical lines, heating and cooling systems and water heater repairs. These service plans are available for AEP Ohio customers to purchase via a special website www.OHelectricalprotectionplan.com and over the phone at 1-855-769-6267. AEP will begin offering HomeServe plans to its customers located in other state service territories later this year.

“We are pleased to be able to introduce these optional plans to American Electric Power customers, beginning with Exterior Electric Line coverage in Ohio, as a simple and affordable safety net against the expense and stress of home electrical repairs,” said Tom Rusin, CEO of HomeServe USA. “Homeowners often don’t realize that they will need to make repairs and pay for damage to their electrical connections before power can be restored. Our plans provide timely repairs and relieve financial stress.”

American Electric Power customers in Ohio will be receiving details about the new program in the mail over the next few weeks. For more information, contact HomeServe toll-free at 1-855-769-6267 or visit www.OHelectricalprotectionplan.com.
