Humetrix to Present iBlueButton Mobile Health Information Exchange Apps for Use in United Kingdom

Company Will Demonstrate Mobile-to-Mobile Point-of-Care Exchange of Medical Records From Cerner and TPP EMRs at the NHS Innovation Expo, March 14

Marketwired

DEL MAR, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 14, 2013) - Humetrix has been invited by the National Health Service (NHS) to present a UK version of its award-winning iBlueButton® mobile platform at the NHS Innovation Expo 2013 in London, Europe's most exciting healthcare innovation event. The latest version of iBlueButton will ultimately enable UK citizens to use their smartphones to access and share their personal health records with healthcare providers at the point of care.

Having a patient's up-to-date information available when they are being treated can help healthcare providers avoid dangerous medical errors and unnecessary or redundant tests and procedures, resulting in safer care and lower costs.

The 1:00 pm GMT demonstration today will feature the use of iBlueButton mobile apps to securely view, download and share personal health information from Cerner® and TPP SystmOne electronic medical record (EMR) systems. TPP maintains health records of more than 26 million NHS patients, while Cerner provides its inpatient solution to 22 acute Trusts in the UK. Humetrix will demonstrate how iBlueButton consumer app can download a patient's hospital discharge summary from a Cerner inpatient EMR, and share the record with the patient's General Practitioner (GP) using iBlueButton mobile-to-mobile Push technology.

Humetrix also will demonstrate iBlueButton's ability to download to the patient's mobile device their GP's health record pulled from SystmOne clinical software. (The SystmOne record used in the demo is not from a live SystmOne GP Practice. In actual use, a GP must consent to let the patient view their record on the app).

The UK version of the iBlueButton platform is expected to be available for consumer use by Fall 2013.

"We are excited to present to the NHS Innovation Expo a mobile tool for safer transitions of care from a hospital discharge to community care," said Bettina Experton, MD, MPH, Founder, CEO and President of Humetrix, and an adjunct professor of medicine at the University of California San Diego Medical School. "iBlueButton has the capability to empower UK citizens in the same way many Americans today use the apps for anywhere/anytime access and exchange of their health records."

Brian Carter, Senior Director of Community Health Solutions at Cerner, said, "Cerner is committed to making it easy for people to take control of their health information. Our approach enables providers and suppliers to contribute to the innovation in personal health empowerment. This capability, demonstrated first by Humetrix, is one of many recent examples of Cerner's dedication to interoperability and data liquidity."

Drew Litter, Director, TPP said, "This is yet another step toward empowering patients to take more control over their care. TPP look forward to seeing how this latest innovation will transform care in the NHS."

iBlueButton is available for iPhone®, iPad® and Android™ mobile devices, including Intel® Atom™-based Android phones and, later this year, Intel Atom-powered Android tablets.

The groundbreaking iBlueButton "dual app system" consists of a consumer app for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, as well as the iBlueButton Professional app for physicians, which currently runs on iPad. This platform enables two-way direct and secure transmission of health records between the patient's mobile device and their physician's tablet.

The iBlueButton apps won the United States federal government's Blue Button® Mash-Up Industry Innovation Challenge for enabling patients to access and share with providers their online health records through the Federal Blue Button initiative. The apps are enabled in the US for Medicare beneficiaries, veterans, active-duty military and their families, Aetna plan enrollees, and patients using RelayHealth.

The iBlueButton consumer and physician apps are available on iTunes for iPhone and iPad. The iBlueButton Android App for consumers is available on the Google Play™ store.

The demonstration will take place today at 1:00 pm (GMT) in the AppZone at the NHS Innovation Expo, held at Excel London.
