FREMONT, Calif. (AP) -- Igate Corp. said Wednesday that Ashok Vemuri has been appointed president and chief executive of the technology consulting firm. He will also join the company's board.
The company fired its prior CEO Phaneesh Murth in May over a relationship with a subordinate employee and claim of sexual harassment. Gerhard Watzinger was named interim president and CEO, and he will stay on in a temporary advisory role to assist with Vemuri's transition.
Igate, based in Fremont, Calif., said that Vemuri's appointment is effective Sept. 16.
Vemuri worked most recently at Infosys Ltd. as its global head of manufacturing and engineering, as well as head of its Americas business. He also served a member of the board of the business consulting firm, which is based in India.
Shares of Igate added 2 percent to $27 in after-hours trading following the announcement. Its stock added 57 cents to close regular trading at $26.46.
