BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

AnDevCon — Immersion Corporation (IMMR), the leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, has integrated its Haptic SDK functionality into three popular developer platforms - Unity, GameMaker: Studio, and Marmalade. Immersion’s haptics, which is used by leading development houses, including Sega, Rockstar Games and Gamevil, adds visceral excitement and intuitive feedback to Android games. The Haptic SDK includes a library of pre-designed haptic effects, which is now accessible to developers without leaving their preferred coding framework.

“Immersion’s growing community of game developers has embraced haptic technology as a way to create more engaging and differentiated gaming experiences,” explains Suzanne Nguyen, Director of Developer Marketing at Immersion. “Our library of gaming effects includes pre-designed haptics for a broad range of use cases, from action effects, like explosions and collisions to UI effects, such as select confirmation or textures. We make the design and integration of haptics as easy as possible, and now we are empowering developers to access our haptic effect library directly from their favorite development environment.”

Immersion haptic technology works on all Android devices, and will be automatically turned off when ported to games for other OS types. The company offers a number of resources for Android game developers, including the Haptic SDK for native application development, the Haptic Studio tool for custom effect design, sample code, quickstart guides, and a technology forum, via the developer web site: http://developer.immersion.com.

Immersion’s Unity Plug-in

Unity is a flexible and high-performance development platform used to make interactive 3D and 2D experiences. Unity Technologies boasts a thriving community of over 1.8 million developers including large publishers, indie studios, students, and hobbyists. The Immersion Unity plug-in is available via the Immersion Developer Page, and the developer site includes “Hello Unity” sample code, to get developers started.

"Physical feedback from virtual environments has become one of the mainstays of the most immersive games," said David Helgason, CEO, Unity Technologies. "We're excited that Immersion is making it easier for our community to build the most engrossing gaming experiences possible."

New Update to GameMaker: Studio with Immersion Haptics

GameMaker: Studio is the fastest and easiest to use cross-platform game development technology. GameMaker: Studio has been developed with usability and efficiency at its core, allowing developers to create games in a single code base and then publish them to run natively across an unprecedented number of platforms including Android, iOS, OS X, HTML5, Ubuntu, Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Windows RT. The entire GameMaker family of products has been downloaded more than five million times. The Immersion plug-in has been integrated into the entire suite of GameMaker: Studio products available at www.yoyogames.com.

“Game developers are just beginning to realize capabilities today’s mobile devices have to deliver compelling tactile effects to enhance game play,” explains Russell Kay, CTO, YoYo Games. “By integrating Immersion technology into GameMaker: Studio, we’re offering developers a new design tool to create more powerful and engaging games.”

Immersion’s Marmalade Plug-in

Marmalade is the powerful cross platform SDK support that is used in apps by top games developers all over the world. Working in C++, HTML5 or Lua, apps made with Marmalade can take developers ‘closer to the metal’, taking full advantage of the power of modern mobile hardware. Marmalade includes support for a wide-range of device-specific features including geo-location, notifications, social media integration, motion controls, camera functionality and much more. The Immersion plug-in for Marmalade can be downloaded via the Immersion Developer Page, and the developer site includes “Hello Marmalade” sample code, to get developers started.

“Marmalade developers are always looking to push the boundaries of what can be done with digital entertainment, and we’re always looking for ways to support their ambitions to create amazing games,” said Harvey Elliott, CEO of Marmalade. “With the launch of this plug-in for our award-winning SDK, it’s now even easier for our community to experiment with Immersion’s impressive library of haptic effects and APIs.”
