ImmunoCellular Therapeutics, Ltd. (“ImmunoCellular”) (NYSE MKT: IMUC) announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a patent covering methods of use of interleukin 13-receptor alpha 2 protein (IL-13Rα2) in cancer immunotherapy. IL-13 is an immune regulatory cytokine and IL-13Rα2 is highly and specifically expressed in glioblastoma, ovarian and other solid tumors, but not in normal tissue. IL-13Rα2 is an important target of ImmunoCellular’s lead product candidate, ICT-107, a dendritic cell vaccine directed against glioblastoma antigens and cancer stem cells, as well as ICT-140, a dendritic cell vaccine to treat ovarian cancer.

The IL-13Rα2 patent was issued to The Penn State Research Foundation, the technology transfer agent for The Pennsylvania State University, and is licensed to Targepeutics, Inc. ImmunoCellular is a sub-licensee of the patent.
