The biggest indexes and ETFs lead today's option volume as more than 6.3 million contracts have traded already, according to optionMONSTER systems.
More than 1 million options have traded in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY), with puts outpacing calls by more than 2 to 1. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 571,000, with 342,000 puts. The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has seen 312,000 turn over, led by 183,000 puts.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 209,000 options traded, with 149,000 puts. Following closely are the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) at 202,000, as puts slightly outpace calls.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 170,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of almost 2 to 1. And the iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 83,000 options moving, with 57,000 puts.
