Total option volume is very light at just 3.8 million contracts so far today, with only two of the top indexes and ETFs breaking the 100,000 mark, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) takes its usual place at the top of the list, but this morning with only 406,000 options, with 240,000 puts. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has just 106,000 options traded, led by 78,000 puts.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 98,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. Just behind are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 95,000, with 58,000 puts.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has 65,000 contracts turned over, with calls outpacing puts by more than 2 to 1. The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) is next up at just 60,000, with 45,000 calls.
